This is a minimalist HD texture pack that leaves most of the classic textures in the game alone, and only replaces the textures that look ugly when scaled up to 1080p HD. I’ve tried to remain 100% loyal to the original look and feel of the game. It uses some textures from Pietschie & Bad Randolph’s amazing texture pack for certain parts of the menus and characters, and the rest were created by me in Photoshop.
Important: This texture pack is meant to be used in conjunction with the Glide64 graphics plugin and a HQ2XS texture filter applied. Textures may not appear correctly using different plugins or settings. You can download all the plugins/settings I personally use via the second link below.

Installation
- Install Project64 and under Settings, set Super Smash to use the Glide 64 graphics plugin.
- Configure Graphics Plugin with these settings.
- Download the texture pack(above), and unzip the SMASH BROTHERS folder into the $AppPath\Textures directory.
- Launch game
Emulator Configuration Recommendation:
- Project64 1.6 or higher (I use PJ64 2.2 and have no problems)
- Glide64 Graphics Plugin (Comes as a default plugin with latest versions of PJ64)
- These Graphics Plugin settings!!!
- Azimer’s HLE Audio Plugin
- Disable “Limit Frame Rate” (Hotkey: F4) for flawless 60fps
Extras for Optimal Emulation Experience:
- N64 Controller to USB Adapters. Recommend purchasing Raphnet adapters. Other brands I’ve tested can introduce input lag or have build quality issues. Alternatively, you can use other PC compatible controllers as well. I sometimes use Xbox360 controllers.
- Enhanced N64 Controller Sticks. Nintendo revolutionized gaming controls with the N64’s thumbstick, but the first generation of thumbstick technology had issues. Classic N64 sticks degrade over time and eventually become too worn down to be playable. However, you can replace the old thumbsticks on your N64 controllers with Gamecube-style thumbsticks! Installation is relatively simple as long as you can unscrew screws, not lose them, and screw them back in.
- Low-Lag Display. Up till now you’ve been able to perfect your emulation experience for less than $50, but here’s where it can get expensive. Input lag is the bane of accurate emulation, and the biggest source of input lag is the display. Currently, the best HDTV available (in terms of lag) is the Sony W950B. Only 6ms (!!!) of display lag according to hdtvtest.co.uk. This is the TV I have, and I can attest to absolutely zero discernible input lag. I did a lot of research when considering a gaming HDTV to purchase, and the W950B is one of the few TVs where input lag is undetectable. Picture quality is beautiful too.
